Dr. R.C. Woods was born in Leicester, England, and was awarded the B.A. and M.A. degrees in Physics by New College, University of Oxford. Following research in the Clarendon Laboratory at the University of Oxford, on magnetic resonance in rare earth metal alloys, he was awarded the D.Phil. degree in 1980. Next followed a period as a postdoctoral Research Assistant in the Engineering Science Department, University of Oxford, where he worked on surface-acoustic wave devices. From 1982 to 1983, he was Senior Scientist at Plessey Research (Caswell) Ltd., Towcester, specializing in semiconductor lasers and LED systems. He was then a Lecturer (and Senior Lecturer from 1993) in Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Sheffield. During this period, in 1989 he was awarded a British Association Fellowship, for several years he served as Associate Editor of the IEE Electronics and Communication Engineering Journal, and in 1995 he was Professeor Invite at the Institut National des Sciences Appliquees de Lyon, France. He was appointed Full Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, in 2002. In 2006 he was named as Department Chairman and Voorhies Distinguished Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. He subsequently became the most successful Department Chairman in the Department's history when under his leadership the Department achieved its best-ever performance before or since.

He is an invited member of the international awarding committee for Marie Curie Fellowships supported by the European Commission in Brussels and of research panels at NSF in Washington D.C. He has current research interests in novel solid-state devices and device modeling, and has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed research publications in these and related fields. In 2005 he was awarded the D.Sc. Higher Doctorate by the University of Oxford in recognition of his distinguished research career spanning a number of years, and in 2006 he was elected a Fellow of the IET (formerly the IEE). He is also a Senior Member of IEEE, and a member of ASEE. In 2010 he was appointed Japan Program Director in the Office of International Science and Engineering at the National Science Foundation in Arlington, Virginia, and subsequently assumed responsibility for the US collaborative basic research programs in Korea, New Zealand, Australia, Mongolia, and Taiwan until 2014. He also led the NSF CNIC program for catalyzing new international collaborations, and was a member of the NSF Optics and Photonics Roadmap working group and the International Science and Engineering Strategic Planning group. For his work at NSF he received the NSF Director's Award for Collaborative Integration for "exceptional teamwork in representing a model for a truly collaborative activity across the Foundation involving science, administration, and science diplomacy."

Also an accomplished pianist, he has played at many public concerts in both Europe and the U.S., including in New York City and London. He is particularly well-known as a soloist and as an accompanist for opera and choral works. He has recorded two commercially-produced CDs, and continues to perform regularly in the U.S. and the U.K. A theme he wrote was used in February 2010 as the basis of an improvisation by pianist Robert Levin at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, Baltimore.

Dr. Ma Dongge is a Professor in State Key Laboratory of Polymer Physics and Chemistry, Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry at Chinese Academy of Sciences, China. He received Ph. D degree in Electrical Engineering Department from Jilin University in 1995. After additional years as a visiting professor and research fellow in Universidade Federal do Paranál, Brazil, and Durham University and St. Andrews University, UK, Dr. Dongge joined Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, CAS, as a professor in 2001. He also achieved National Natural Science Prize and Science and Technology Prize of Jilin Province. Dr. Dongge is always engaged in semiconductor optoelectronic devices and physics and obtained many support of projects in the field of organic optoelectronics.

Research interests: Organic optoelectronics, including organic light-emitting diodes, organic solar cells, organic photodetectors, organic lasers and electric processes in organic semiconductors.

Dr. Yiming Li is a Professor in Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), Hsinchu, Taiwan. Dr. Li is the Deputy Director of the Modeling and Simulation Center, conducting the Parallel and Scientific Computing Laboratory, NCTU. He is an Adjunct Professor with the WPI-AIMR, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan. Dr. Li was the Deputy Director General with Nano Device Laboratories, Hsinchu, Taiwan from 2009 to 2011. He has been a Visiting Scholar with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Stanford University, Stanford, CA, since 2011. He has been a Visiting Professor with the PHELMA/IMEP-Lahc, Grenoble INP, Minatec, France, since 2012.

Dr. Li current research interests include computational nanoelectronics and nanoelectromagnetics, physics of semiconductor nanostructures, transport simulation and model parameter extraction for semiconductor and photonics devices, computer-aided-design theory and technology, biomedical and energy harvesting devices simulation, parallel and scientific computing, and optimization methodology.

Dr. Li was a recipient of 2002 Research Fellowship Award presented by the Pan Wen-Yuan Foundation, Taiwan and also 2006 Outstanding Young Electrical Engineer Award from the Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering, Taiwan.

Dr. Hans L. Hartnagel is a Emeritus Professor at Technische Universitat Darmstadt. He received Diploma degree in 1960 from the Technical University of Aachen, W. Germany. Dr. Hartnagel completed his Ph.D. and Doctorate Engineering degrees from University of Sheffield, England. After working for a short period with industrial company Telefunken in Ulm, W. Germany regarding research and development of microwave tubes. He joined as Assistant Professor at Institute National des Sciences Appliquées, France and then initially as lecturer, later on as reader at Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering of the University of Sheffield.

Dr. Hartnagel became a Professor of Electronic Engineering at the University of Newcastle in January 1971, England. There he developed a new Semiconductor technology centre which was involved with microwave integrations, particularly based on GaAs and related semiconductors.

Since October 1978, Dr. Hartnagel has been a Professor of High Frequency Electronics at the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany. He has been involved there with numerous microwave concepts including MEMS, opto-electronics, sensors and communication signal processing circuitry and also with various types of material developments particularly regarding epitaxial single crystal studies. In view of interest in materials, he became Foundation Dean of the new faculty of material science in the T. University Darmstadt. Hence, therefore he simultaneously became a member of the electrical faculty and one of material science. He received the Max Planck Prize together with Prof. H. Hasegawa for their joint pioneering contributions on surface and interface technology of compound semiconductors.

Dr. German Ardul Munoz-Hernandez is a Professor in Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Puebla Institute of Technology, Mexico. He received the M.Sc degree in Electronic Systems from the National Institute of Astrophysics Optic and Electronic (INAOE, Mexico).

Dr. Munoz-Hernandez received PhD degree from the University of Wales, Bangorin in 2005. He worked at FAPATUX, a Pulp and Paper factory in Tuxtepec, Mexico, from 1986-1987 as a programmer and from 1990-1993 in the area of Engineering and new projects. He has been a Visiting Engineer at South Carolina (Columbia, USA 1995), Michigan (Ann Arbor, USA 1996) and the CERN (Geneva, Switzerland 2007, 2009).

He is currently on the faculty of the Electrical Engineering Dept. University of California, Santa Cruz, CA. He is also Visiting Professor, Mechanical Engineering Dept., University of Maryland, College Park, MD; and Guest Professor, Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China. He is Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the American Physical Society (APS), the Institute of Physics (IoP), UK, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE).

Dr. Suhir has been recently elected as Foreign Full Member (Academician) of the National Academy of Engineering and Technological Sciences, Ukraine; as Fulbright Scholar, Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES), State Department, US; and as Editor, Silicon Valley Engineering Council (SVEC) Journal. He is Member of the Board of Governors and Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE CPMT (Components, Packaging and Manufacturing Technology) Society, Associate Editor of the IEEE CPMT Transactions on Advanced Packaging, Member of the ECTC (Electronic Components and Technology Conference) Applied Reliability Subcommittee, the IEEE CPMT award committee, the IEEE Fellow nomination committee, and the ASME General Awards committee.

Dr. Suhir received many professional awards, including: 2004 ASME Worcester Read Warner Medal for outstanding contributions to the permanent literature of engineering through a series of papers in Mechanical, Microelectronic, and Optoelectronic Engineering, which established a new discipline known as the Structural Analysis of Microelectronic and Photonic Systems (he is the third Russian American, after Steven Timoshenko and Igor Sikorsky, who received this prestigious award); 2001 IMAPS John A. Wagnon Technical Achievement Award for outstanding contributions to the technical knowledge of the microelectronics, optoelectronics, and packaging industry; 2000 IEEE-CPMT Outstanding Sustained Technical Contribution Award for outstanding, sustained and continuing contributions to the technologies infields encompassed by the CPMT Society; 2000 SPE International Engineering/Technology (Fred O. Conley) Award for outstanding pioneering and continuing contributions to plastics engineering; 1999 ASME and Pi-Tau-Sigma Charles Russ Richards Memorial Award for outstanding contributions to mechanical engineering, and 1996 Bell Laboratories Distinguished Member of Technical Staff Award for developing extremely accurate and robust engineering mechanics methods for predicting the reliability, performance, and mechanical behavior of complex structures used in manufacturing Lucent Technologies products.
